I am a writer and climate communicator with expertise in climate solutions, renewable energy and green building. I am the author of two non-fiction books published by John Wiley & Sons. I was a staff writer for The Australian and The Sunday Herald, have had articles published in Washingtonian Magazine, The Washington Times, and PV Magazine; and have appeared on or been quoted in media ranging from Oprah to Bloomberg, Working Mother to Consulting Today. I have spoken professionally at national conferences, both to business and consumer audiences, and erased any stage fright as a member of a comedy improv team performing at the Chicago Improv Festival.
I have trained in polar expeditions with the Royal Geographic Society, mountaineering with the National Outdoor Leadership School, and completed a graduate program in filmmaking with the Institute for Documentary Filmmaking at George Washington University and a semester of radio production at American University.
I hold and undergraduate degree in economics and two masters, one in business strategy (Anderson School at UCLA) and in sustainable design (Catholic University of America). I am a LEED-AP.

Energy and climate solutions
Between creative pursuits and research into my father's time in the Antarctic, I help climate solutions companies speak to their audiences. Through developing and implementing marketing and media strategies, my team and I promote companies that are committed to improving the world. Our clients include some of the largest and most impactful firms in renewable energy and climate solutions financing.
Prior to this, my career included time at companies including McKinsey & Company's energy and utilities practice, Macquarie Bank, Ketchum, Enphase Energy, and now Kiterocket. I am on the board of EnZinc, a revolutionary rechargeable zinc battery company, and am a contributor to GRID Alternative's We Give circle of women executives in clean energy. My clients have ranged from Fortune 500 companies to early stage start ups.

Global Perspective
I'm from Australia, live in the San Francisco Bay area, and have lived and worked in remote and island locations including Vanuatu, Antigua, New Caledonia, Puerto Rico. I took a couple of long backpacking trips after undergrad and grad school that included traveling the Silk Road from Islamabad to Beijing and then heading back to Moscow via the Trans Manchurian Railway back when solo travel was actively discouraged by the Russians. With other journeys to visit friends and hike remote regions and trips to see my family on the other side of the globe, I've covered a fair amount of the planet. It's only in the last decade that I've become acutely aware of the massive carbon footprint of all that travel, and have calculated the impact of the miles traveled and bought carbon offsets to pay penance for the journeys. I still travel when necessary for work or family, but work remotely whenever possible.

Inspirations
My love for the planet and desire to explore the corners of it was seeded by books and stories, took root as I saw more of the world, and budded when I saw the area I grew up in ravaged by the impacts of climate change. Along with the usual suspects in the environmental movement (Al Gore, David Suzuki, Rachel Carson, leaders of amazing climate organizations at the UN), the business world (Richard Branson, Ray Anderson, Yvon Chouinard), and the architectural world (Bjark Engels, Renzo Piano, all sorts of pioneers in green building design and materials), my journey has been inspired by my partner, father, and family.
My father (center) spent the southern summer of 1958 as a surveyor measuring the depth of the icecap in the Antarctic. I didn't get to know him as he passed away when I was very young, but being raised among pictures and stories of his adventures inspired my own curiosity about the world. |
My better half is creative, smart, curious, and committed. He's a designer at heart, an aerospace engineer by training, and a green technology entrepreneur by vocation. He's got 100x more patience than me. He's kind to dogs and small kids gravitate to him. He makes me laugh in a way no one else does. |
My mother, Donna, is a creative tour de force, with needle, pen or garden trowel. My stepfather Ed taught me to see the bones of a house and to swing a hammer. My older brother Ian and his wife Jane work to save ocean life, and my younger brother Michael and his wife Elaine shape new generations of green warriors. |
